For Employers

Eckerd Connects believes in stable jobs, growing careers, and thriving families. Through education and on-the-job experience, we partner with our clients to ensure their professional development and long- term success.

Work Experience and Self-Initiated Work Experience assists individuals in building employability skills through real-world job experience.

These two activities are designed to connect community employers with individuals and to help these individuals build skills and maximize their marketability in the workforce. The purpose of the program is for CalWORKs participants to develop the skills necessary to obtain full-time, unsubsidized employment and achieve self-sufficiency, designed to benefit both the CalWORKS Extended Subsidized Employment (ESE) participant and the employer.

The Employer Benefits

  • Provide your organization with extra-help labor at no cost
  • Covers the participants’ workers compensation exposure while they are working at your site
  • Eckerd Connects covers ESE participant with payroll and related deductions, reports, and Worker’s Compensation Insurance
  • A simple contract and a weekly participant timesheet are the organization’s only requirements
  • ESE participant comes prepared with work readiness training
  • Support by Eckerd Career Coach to assure a good job match
  • ESE participant is pre-qualified to meet minimum job requirements per the employer job description
  • Identify proper talent for future hiring opportunities The Community Benefits
  • As participants transition to self-sufficiency, the number of individuals who rely on public assistance is reduced
  • Community sites will benefit from increased staffing The ESE Participant Benefits
  • Participants will learn basic job skills and have the opportunity to develop good work habits
  • Participants will learn about the importance of punctuality and teamwork in the workplace
  • Participants will meet their CalWORKs mandated work activity requirements
  • Some participants will have the opportunity to transition into paid employment positions
