University Park Elementary students participate in Eckerd Connects, 99th Squadron Flying Event

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eckerd Connects partnered with the 99th Squadron to host a flying event recently at the Valkaria Airport and five students were selected to attend and represent University Park Elementary School, which is on W. University Blvd. in Melbourne.
This was a free event with the goal of giving students an opportunity to experience a STEM activity and learn about a possible career in a STEM field.
University Park students that participated included 6th-grader Samyah Stanley, fifth-grader Josiah Garcia-Moore, fourth-grader Jaicob Garcia-Moore, and fourth-grader Zachary Terrero. University Park’s Julie Grace also came to support the students.
The students were able to fly up close with pilots to learn some flying basics and some were even able to take control and fly the plane themselves and complete turns with the help of the pilots. What an incredible experience and learning opportunity.
