Success Stories | Alexis

Alexis smiling holding her high school diplomaAlexis has faced difficulty in her home life due to the passing of her father but she has demonstrated that no matter what your circumstances are, your goals can be achieved.  

Alexis is 16 years old and heard about the Eckerd Connects Workforce Development program in March of 2021 through her former employer Roscoe Thomas, GM/owner of Planet Smoothie. Alexis has a career interest in cosmetology, as well as business; her long-term goal is to open her own salon.  

While Alexis was in the program was able to get her high school diploma. She also attained her:

 

  • Safe Staff certification 
  • The National Retail Federation-Customer Service and Sales credential 
  • The American Hotel and Lodging Front Desk Attendant certification
  • Florida Restaurant and Lodging-Food Handler Safety credential 

Alexis also began financial literacy training through the FDIC Money Smart curriculum, completing courses in Money Matters, Pay Yourself First, Keep it Safe, Bank on It, Check it Out, Charge on it, and Financial Recovery.  

Alexis began new employment at the Fresh Kitchen in Lake Mary. She is employing her skills learned through her Safe Staff training and the NRF Customer Service certification. Alexis is working with her mother to enroll in Seminole State College in the Spring of 2022.  

The sky’s the limit for Alexis.
