Breaking Barriers: Madison’s Journey to a Lucrative Career

Celebrating Madison’s Success in a Non-Traditional Trade at Old Dominion Job Corps!

When Madison joined our program in 2022, she was just 16 years old. This resilient young woman was goal-focused from the start and made the difficult decision to stay with Job Corps, even when her mother and younger brother moved to Texas. With support and guidance from staff, she earned her High School Diploma, Learner’s permit, and Driver’s License. That was just the beginning! Madison worked diligently to complete the Automotive Program on campus and participated in an internship off campus at Kenworth Trucking in Lynchburg, Virginia. This hands-on experience helped build her skills and self-esteem.

With laser-focus, she went on to earn a welding certificate through Central Virginia Community College while holding down a part-time job. Upon graduating in January, Madison was delighted to receive a full-time employment offer from Kenworth Trucking. Company leaders had been impressed with her passion for automobiles and impeccable work ethic. Before leaving Old Dominion, this enterprising young lady was able to secure housing and purchase her first new car.

Congratulations, Madison! Your hard work and dedication have paved the way for a very bright future!
