Kayley with her GED Certificate

Kayley has a true success story. She came to Eckerd Workforce Development as a single mother of two, a high school dropout, and with limited work experience. From day one, Kayley was interested in obtaining a career in the medical field. Kayley knew she would need to obtain her GED if she hoped for a job and promotions in her chosen career path. Eckerd’s Career Coaches and Instructors provided Kayley assistance in preparation for her GED as well as taught her work readiness skills in order to secure employment. Kayley also participated in a work experience program at the Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce while in the program and earned her GED at the Indian River Adult Education Center.

After obtaining her GED, Kayley became interested in becoming a phlebotomist, an important medical professional who draws blood samples from patients. Kayley registered for phlebotomy classes and is currently finishing the Phlebotomy Program in the top of her class. She is scheduled to take the National Phlebotomy Certification Exam at the end of June.

“This program is a godsend,” says Kayley. “When I did not know what I was going to do with my life, you gave me the direction and support I needed!”

Kayley is planning on working as a phlebotomist upon certification and continuing her education for the healthcare industry. She is engaged to be married in the coming year.
