Access to Success Stories | Diann

Eckerd Connects’ mission and vision of the Success Award is that we work to ensure every client can succeed.  Diann Wheeler has fostered for 12 years. She currently has two foster daughters. As a young woman, Ms. Wheeler’s mother passed away, and she had to raise her six younger siblings. In time, she also raised her niece and grandson. The love for family and children in need drives her need to help children through fostering.

• Diann is caring, compassionate, and can easily connect with children and parents who are hurting. She works well with school staff, foster children’s birth parents, agency workers and other foster families.
• She is a volunteer mentor and provides day respite for foster parents who work outside the home during the day. She also mentors birth parents and gives of herself to ensure children can return home or become adopted.
• She stays busy ensuring her kids receive weekly therapy sessions, meet with their case management team and visit their parents, in additions to medical and social appointments.

The pandemic has caused her kid’s visits and appointments to move from in-person to virtual, and her cellular phone wasn’t keeping up with the demand. To support her and the children in her home, Diann Wheeler’s family will receive a computer, printer, desk and chair. Her cellular phone can finally get a break. Help us congratulate, Ms. Diann Wheeler!
