Success Stories | Breanna

Breanna had gotten into some trouble at her school and sought out other alternatives to completing her schooling.  She learned of the Eckerd Connects Workforce Development program from a friend.  After speaking with the Career Coach at the Deland site and completing the exploratory period successfully, Breanna was enrolled in early April of 2019.

Breanna took full advantage of our career pathway by completing a variety of employment and workforce workshops.  Employment/workforce lessons she participated in included: mock interview tips and practice, soft skills development, cover letter, and resume creation, paper applications, salary vs wage, career exploration, job search tips, and dress for success which all will assist her with career-based employment in the future.  Additionally, various life skills topics Breanna had were budgeting, workplace ethics, and FDIC MoneySmart financial literacy lessons.

Breanna also earned four credentials as a participant including First Aid (April), SafeStaff (April), and NRF (National Retail Federation) in August.  Breanna earned her most important credential when she passed her last subject area test on May 8, 2019, to earn her High School Diploma!

Breanna successfully completed her paid Work Experience (WEX) component with Eckerd Connects after working 360 hours at Berryville in Deland, FL.  Berryville Bowlicious (formerly named Berryville Frozen Yogurt) allows patrons to create various sundaes after choosing a specific ice cream or yogurt and adding dozens of various toppings of their liking.  Breanna had the opportunity to work at Berryville which allowed her to develop and practice her customer service skills in real-life prior to obtaining her NRF credential in August.  Some of the areas/topics the NRF credential covers to help prepare participants for retail/sales are building a continuing relationship, meet your customer needs, and getting to know your customer which undoubtedly Breanna utilized at Berryville.

Breanna became a YPO (Youth Positive Outcome) graduate in January 2020 when she began classes at Daytona State College.  Breanna enrolled to pursue a B.S. degree in Business Administration in which she will oversee and supervise business operations.

Continue your success, Breanna!
