Through Eckerd Connects’ Aftercare Resource Navigator Program (ARNP), young people are equipped with the tools, guidance, and support they need to successfully transition back into their communities—and Shemaya B.’s story is a powerful example of what that support makes possible.
Prior to her reintegration, Shemaya was matched with a dedicated Navigator who worked alongside her to create a personalized Plan for Success. This plan served as a roadmap, helping her identify goals, connect with meaningful community resources, and explore opportunities that would support her long-term growth and stability. Through ARNP, Shemaya received guidance not only in meeting immediate needs, but also in building a strong foundation for her future.
Now, 90 days after returning to her community, Shemaya is thriving.
At just 17 years old, she recently celebrated a major milestone as a proud graduate of Port St. Lucie High School, Class of 2026. Her determination and commitment to her education earned her a two-year scholarship through the Promise Program—an achievement that underscores her dedication to building a brighter future. This fall, she will attend Indian River State College, where she plans to pursue a degree in Psychology.
While academics are a central focus, Shemaya is also passionate about exploring her creative interests. She has a strong desire to become a beautician and is actively seeking opportunities to develop her skills in cosmetology. By balancing her educational goals with her personal passions, she is creating a pathway that reflects both purpose and possibility.
In addition to her studies and career exploration, Shemaya is gaining valuable work experience through her part-time job at a local restaurant. There, she is strengthening her professional skills, building confidence, and learning the importance of responsibility and teamwork—key qualities that will serve her well in the years ahead.
Shemaya’s journey reflects resilience, determination, and the impact of having the right support system at the right time. With encouragement from her family and continued guidance from ARNP, she has embraced each step forward with a positive mindset and a clear vision for her future.
