What is Eckerd's Functional Family Therapy Program?

Eckerd Connects’ Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a nationally recognized, evidence-based program designed to support youth ages 11–18 and their families. This short-term intervention helps young people involved in the Child Welfare or juvenile justice systems who may be facing challenges such as behavioral issues, conduct disorders, substance use, or delinquency.

FFT focuses on strengthening families, building positive communication, and addressing the root causes of conflict at home. Sessions are held in the family’s home, making it easier to engage parents and caregivers while working around busy schedules.

Areas Served

Functional Family Therapy is available in more than 20 counties across Kansas, including: Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Butler, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Crawford, Douglas, Elk, Franklin, Greenwood, Johnson, Labette, Linn, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Shawnee, Sedgwick, Wilson, and Woodson.

Our Services

Functional Family Therapy is delivered in three key phases, each building on the last. The ultimate goal is to reduce problem behaviors, prevent re-offending, and empower families with the tools to create lasting change.

Behavior Change & Generalization

What Makes It Unique?

Functional Family Therapy is more than counseling—it’s a structured, phase-based model proven to improve youth outcomes and foster stronger family relationships. Each plan is tailored to the family’s unique needs and challenges. What sets it apart is:

  • In-home delivery for greater accessibility
  • A short-term approach (8–30 sessions, typically 3 months) with long-lasting results
  • Strong focus on both youth behavior changes and family relationship repair
  • Flexibility to address mild, moderate, or more complex situations
