Nonprofit Spotlight E-Nini-Hassee: Changing girls’ lives

Camp E-Nini-Hassee Chief Kassie Lower, in red, a master counselor at the camp, works closely with her campers to guide them toward their goals and help prepare them for life as productive citizens once they leave the camp. The camp caters to at-risk teenage girls who come to the camp to work through difficulties in their lives.

Hard work, strict discipline mixed with love, positive and affirming messages, encouragement for making good choices and a lot of chopping wood are just part of what teen girls are provided at Eckerd E-Nini-Hassee therapeutic camp for at-risk teenage girls in Floral City.

Founded in 1968 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd, the camp specializes in treating girls ages 12-18 who deal with mental health and behavioral issues, substance abuse, eating disorders, familial and generational dysfunction, poor impulse control and other issues.
