Melissa Tran has served on multiple Job Corps Centers in roles including instructor, counselor, counseling manager, social development director, deputy, and center director. Some of her favorite experiences include leading a high-performing, peer-directed pilot program at the Tulsa Job Corps Center for students who had been disciplinarily separated from other centers, and serving as deputy center director at the St. Louis Job Corps Center, resulting in the national ranking of #7 in 2017. She is currently the center director at the sunny and beautifully appointed Pinellas County Job Corps Center (PCJCC). She and her team are focused on developing a high-performance culture that reflects the center’s motto, “A Phoenix Always Rises,” by celebrating PCJCC’s RISE attributes: Resilience, Initiative, Service, and Excellence.
Melissa has also enjoyed roles such as project manager, event planner, presenter, trainer/facilitator, and writer both within the Job Corps community and for private organizations. In 2023, Melissa and her husband started a nonprofit that amplifies information and shares resources to inform youth, educators, and families about the dangers of fentanyl and other synthetic drugs, reaching several thousand Job Corps students and staff, communities, youth, and families. In her free time, Melissa loves spending time with her family, friends, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren, swimming in the ocean, enjoying her garden, reading, and enjoying her wonderful dogs, Lucky and Biggie.
