Hi-Five Gets High Five from Sixth-Graders

Enter Hi-Five, an Eckerd prevention program that teaches students strategies to avoid substance abuse as well as ways to build healthy conflict resolution skills and handle their own emotions, recently concluded a 10-week program with sixth-graders in Florida. For students like Christina Belcher, Hi-Five has been a lifeline.

“I’ve had family problems growing up, and the Hi-Five program taught me that I’m not alone,” she said. “It’s meant a lot to me to learn people are there to help, all you have to do is ask. Sometimes you feel like you’re facing the whole world by yourself, but when you let others in to help it takes some of the burdens off you.”
