Eckerd Connects Celebrates Florida Youth Success Day Honorees
Solymar and Shannel Named 2025 DJJ Youth Ambassadors

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Eckerd Connects proudly celebrates two extraordinary young women—Solymar and Shannel—who have been named 2025 Youth Ambassadors by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). Their stories of determination, personal growth, and success were recognized during the Youth Success Day ceremony on April 15 in Tallahassee.
Youth Success Day is a statewide celebration honoring young people who have overcome significant challenges and are now thriving with the support of DJJ and its community partners. Solymar and Shannel were nominated by Eckerd Connects’ Project Bridge, a program that helps justice-involved youth transition back into their communities with the tools and support needed for long-term success.
“Solymar and Shannel represent the heart of our mission,” said Ana Lewis, Vice President of Community-Based Services at Eckerd Connects. “Their stories are a powerful reminder that with the right support system, mentorship, and opportunity, young people can rewrite their stories and shape bright, meaningful futures.”
Solymar entered the program eager to turn her life around. Through life skills training, adult education, and her own commitment to giving back, she not only earned her GED but also enrolled in barbering school, thanks to an Eckerd Connects Success Award. Today, she is halfway through her certification at the Barber Academy of Orlando and already earning income by doing hair.
