Eckerd Connects teamed up with Greater Ridgecrest YMCA to host Family Field Day at the Y.
It was a great opportunity to enjoy time together in a fun-filled fellowship day with more than 15 field activities, open swim, plus information about programs, services and community resources. Families enjoyed free lunch from Subway of Tampa Bay, Inc., raffle prizes, Home Depot kids craft workshop and inflatable team challenges.
Dave Farquharson, resource recruitment specialist at Eckerd Connects, says the purpose of the event was to celebrate foster families and to raise awareness that more foster parents are needed.
“The people here today are very special,” said Farquharson. “You don’t become a foster parent simply because it’s a good thing to do. You become a foster parent because there’s something in your heart that wants to reach out to kids that need love, attention and need someone to care for them and give them a home.”
Farquharson says there are more than 100 more children in foster care in Pinellas and Pasco Counties today than there were one year ago.
