Eckerd Connects terminates Hillsborough YFA contract

Eckerd Connects served notice to Youth and Family Alternatives, Inc, (“YFA”) on Tuesday, February 06, 2018 to terminate their case management contract effective May 7, 2018.

Eckerd Connects is the lead child welfare agency in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties and subcontracts with private agencies to help manage Foster Care case management.

On January 24, 2018 Eckerd Connects became aware of a teenage foster youth who was left in front of an Eckerd Connects office with no supervision, hungry and crying. Eckerd Connects staff immediately reported this incident to the Florida Abuse Hotline, Department of Children and Families, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office – Child Protective Division. Upon investigation it appears the practice of leaving youth unsupervised alone in the community by YFA staff was not an isolated incident.

This will only effect YFA operations in Hillsborough County.

Eckerd Connects will work to transition the services of YFA’s contract as we conduct an emergency procurement.  Eckerd Connects will provide a management transition team immediately to YFA Hillsborough to ensure child safety and that best practices are followed during the transition.
