Camp Spirit 5K to benefit Camp E-Nini-Hassee

Camp E-Nini-Hassee is unlike any other youth program in Citrus County. It’s is a wilderness camp in Floral City, which helps at-risk girls between ages 12 and 18 who are struggling with emotional or behavioral difficulties.

The camp was founded in 1969 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd and is under the umbrella of the nonprofit organization, Eckerd Connects.

After a tough few years with canceled annual fundraisers due to COVID-19, Camp E-Nini-Hassee will host a new event, the Camp Spirit 5K, at 8 a.m. Nov. 13 in Black Diamond. Early registration begins at 7 a.m. Online registration is open through midnight Wednesday at runsignup.com/Race/FL/Lecanto/CampSpirit5K.

Hannah Sachewicz of the Citrus County Chronicle joined Heather Cogar, Camp E-Nini-Hassee graduate, volunteer and race coordinator, for a tour of the Camp E-Nini-Hassee.
